PHILOSOPHY

EDUCATION IS EVERY CHILD’S RIGHT, REGARDLESS OF PHYSICAL, COGNITIVE, SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL, ECONOMIC AND OTHER LIMITATIONS

  • an inclusive school with a warm, caring and supportive environment

  • equal access of every child to quality education

THE EDUCATION OF A CHILD SHOULD BE DESIGNED FROM A HOLISTIC, AND NOT A FRAGMENTED PERSPECTIVE

  • total development of a child – gross and fine motor, cognitive, sensory-perceptual, emotional, personal-social, moral, creative, and self-care

  • academic and non-academic learning

  • academic development that is not limited to basic skills and concepts

EDUCATION IS A PROCESS OF GROWTH THAT IS FOSTERED IN AND OUT OF THE CLASSROOM AND INVOLVES CLOSE COLLABORATION AMONG CONCERNED INDIVIDUALS

  • learning concepts, skills, and values in the classroom, school, home, and community

  • education is a collaboration of the school, home and community

EACH STUDENT IS UNIQUE AND HAS HIS/HER OWN LEARNING STYLE AND SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO BECOME AWARE OF, APPRECIATE AND MAXIMIZE SUCH FOR OPTIMUM LEARNING

  • unique individuality of each student – varied learning styles and capacities

  • teaching the way students learn

  • teachers who recognize student’s individual strengths, weaknesses and potentials

  • provision of optimal opportunities for the child to flourish in the way he learns

  • provision of individualized teaching

STUDENTS SHOULD BE PROVIDED WITH APPROPRIATE CHALLENGES FOR THEM TO OPTIMIZE THEIR POTENTIALS

  • learning environments that are neither subject to extreme high pressure nor are absolutely stress-free

  • adequate training  coupled with reasonable expectations

  • children who are allowed to take in challenges of learning positively and successfully

THE USE OF “EXPLORATION,” “ACTIVE PLAY,” AND “SELF-DISCOVERY” MAKE LEARNING MORE PLEASURABLE, AND CONSEQUENTLY, MORE EFFECTIVE

  • use of multimodal activities and other learning opportunities

  • use of students’ interests as springboards for teaching

  • integration of exploratory, active play and self-discovery activities in the school curriculum

INTIMATE PERSONAL GUIDANCE OF TEACHERS IS ESSENTIAL IN MOLDING STUDENTS TO BECOME CONTRIBUTING MEMBERS OF SOCIETY

  • low student-teacher ratio

  • teachers who are aware of and are sensitive to students’ physical, cognitive, and psychosocial development and experiences
